USPA Tandem Instructor Rating Course

The UPT / USPA Tandem Instructor Course prepares experienced skydivers to conduct tandem skydives using the United Parachute Technologies (UPT) tandem parachute system.

The course combines classroom instruction, equipment training, emergency procedures, and ten supervised tandem training jumps. Training follows UPT requirements and supports qualification for the applicable UPT and USPA tandem ratings.

Course Overview

Phase 1 — Initial Training (5 Jumps)

Candidates complete classroom instruction, equipment familiarization, emergency-procedure training, and five initial training jumps.

Training includes tandem system operation, passenger preparation, freefall procedures, emergency response, canopy control, and landing accuracy.

Phase 2 — Practical Training (5 Jumps)

Candidates complete five additional tandem jumps to develop and demonstrate proficiency in tandem operations, passenger management, equipment procedures, and safe flight.

Both phases are completed during the course, with all ten jumps conducted under the direct supervision of a UPT Tandem Instructor Examiner.
